Behind an impressive start by José Méndez, Reading beat Newark, 4-1. The second-place Railbirds have a record of 35-26.

Reading took a 3-0 lead on Jorge Flores's 2nd triple of the season. The 2-run triple, which Flores hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Newark pitcher Josh Jones visibly frustrated.

Said losing manager Brandon T: "Give the Railbirds credit. They played a better game than we did."
