Méndez Blasts Railbirds, Jail Break Take Game 4, 5-4
|
On the verge of being swept and facing a red-hot Reading Railbirds team, the Alcatraz Island Jail Break had a tough assignment. Vicente Méndez delivered.
The Jail Break first baseman was unstoppable for the visitors, as he belted 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice in guiding his club to its first victory of the series, 5-4. Méndez, 26, earned accolades for his efforts. The win means Alcatraz Island now trails 3-1 in the best-of-7 series.
With one out in the top of the third, Floyd Gibbs barreled up a fastball from Juan Gallardo. The result was a 2-run home run, putting the Jail Break in front, 3-0.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Reading manager Slam Dunks said following the tough loss.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Schuylkill Landing Park in Reading.
