In a tight contest between the Reading Railbirds and the Alcatraz Island Jail Break, José Méndez was the determining factor. The Reading right-hander sparkled in his team's 3-2 win. Méndez, now 5-3, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 7, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. With the win, Reading pushed its record to 41-30.

Juan Hernández drove in one run for Reading. The 26-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Chris Jouan. It was his 15th RBI of the season.

Hernández called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
