Hall of Fame Welcomes Oakes
Wednesday, January 1st , 2076
Thousands of fans braved the wind to watch and cheer as baseball's latest legend, Clement Oakes, was inducted into the Pioneers of the Diamond Hall of Fame today. With his 31 home runs, 2981 hits and lifetime .325 batting average, everyone knew the gifted right fielder belonged with the immortals of the game. Still, Oakes remained humble.
"I'm a very lucky person to be born with the skill to play baseball and through baseball I built a name for myself," said Oakes. Now his career as a baseball player is complete. "This seals it," he said. "To get the recognition that every ballplayer seeks -- this is completion for me."
Oakes retired at 39 in 2070. He was inducted as a member of the Glacier Bay Ice Pirates, earning votes from 81.4% of eligible voters. In his epic career he played in 2377 games and finished with 967 RBIs and 1362 runs scored.
