Highland Bashes 5 Base Hits Monday, April 23rd, 2040 5 hits in 5 at-bats. It doesn't happen every day, and when it does, it's exciting. Today Mike Highland of the Laredo Border Jumpers had a sensational game against Mexico City at Corona Field. He rifled base hits all over the ballpark, but it didn't pay off in a victory. The Diablos took the game 5-4. In the postgame press conference Highland joked, "Heck, that's a week's worth of hitting for me, and I did it all in one day. I guess I can take the rest of the week off. Right, Skip?" His manager retorted half-smilingly, "Only if we win the game, son ... only if we win the ballgame. That's what they pay us to do, you know." Mike Highland hit a solo-shot off Jody Sutherland in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th. Looking at his present stats, Highland has compiled a .328 batting average in 14 games with a .339 on-base percentage, while hitting 3 home runs and driving in 8 runs. |
