Lake Champlain Takes Round 1 in Deciding Game Monday, August 25th , 2064 The stakes were high at Field of the Oysters tonight and the Lake Champlain Monsters stepped up when it counted. Edging the Hell HellFire 3-2 to wrap up the Round 1, Lake Champlain won the clinching game by a 3-0 score. "You've got to fight that doubt and that little part of you that says you can't do it or you're going to fail," said Lake Champlain left-hander Jaime De La Cruz. "The possibility of failure is always in your mind, but you can't let it bring you down." The failure of the HellFire to advance was certainly weighing heavily on the team's manager. "It's a crushing loss and a tough way to lose a series," said. "In the end there can only be one Round 3 champion and we're just devastated it's not going to be us." De La Cruz's strong pitching earned him the nod as series MVP. He had a 0.00 ERA over 14 innings pitched. He added 11 strikeouts with a 2-0 record. The Lake Champlain Monsters will play against the Wildwood Waves in the next round. Wildwood won their series against the Puerto Vallarta Freedom 3 games to 0.
