3 Roundtrippers for Compton
Tuesday, June 20th , 2073
Bakersfield Firewalkers first baseman Ken Compton sensed he was going to have a good day at the plate, but he still might have underestimated it a little.
Prior to the start of today's contest with the Modesto Goshawks, Compton told teammates he was sure he would hit a home run. He did -- three times.
"During batting practice I really had my swing down pat," he recalled. "I felt some thunder in the lumber."
The big day from Compton pushed the Firewalkers past the Goshawks, 6-2. To go along with the homers, he collected 5 RBIs and scored 3 runs.
"I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Compton told reporters after the game.
Ken Compton struck out in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Luis Torrez in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Luis Torrez in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Eric Price in the 7th and walked in the 9th.
So far on the season, Compton is hitting .395 with 8 home runs, 19 RBIs and 10 runs scored. He has 15 hits and played in 9 games.
