Bearers Top Railbirds to Even Record
|
The St. Paul Bearers picked up a win at Casket County Stadium, knocking off the Reading Railbirds, 6-1. Starting pitcher Gary Johnson played a key role in the triumph. Johnson, now 11-7, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. St. Paul has 3 straight wins, Reading 3 straight losses.
St. Paul shortstop Nick Lemoine contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With two down, he hit a fastball to left field for a 2-run single. It was his 97th hit of the season and put the Bearers ahead, 4-1.
"Today was a lot of fun," said Lemoine.
