Chicken Haulers Turn Back Falcons, 2-1
|
The Newark Falcons got a superb performance from pitcher Kunitaro Watanabe, but the Amarillo Chicken Haulers still won the game, 2-1. Watanabe threw 6.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Amarillo reliever Bill Roberts picked up the win, upping his record to 4-3. Kunitaro Watanabe was saddled with the loss. Bob Owen recorded the save for Amarillo, his 5th of the season.
Amarillo center fielder Dan Maddox contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the first. With two down, he hit a curveball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 12th hit of the season and put the Chicken Haulers ahead, 2-0.
"Makes our job easier," said Maddox, "when our pitchers shut the opposition down."
The Chicken Haulers now own a record of 68-84.
