Diablos Score Late, Clip Jail Break, 8-7
|
The Mexico City Diablos defeated the Alcatraz Island Jail Break, 8-7, at The Rock. Francisco Olivares, who finished 2nd in the AP in extra base hits with 90 in 2065, was a standout performer for Mexico City. His 2 hits included 1 single and 1 double -- this in addition to the 2 runs he scored and 1 he knocked in. Leroy Welch earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2.2 innings. His record is now 8-3. Earning his 43rd save of the year was Tyler Walker.
Jared Hoffman, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2071 draft, helped out the Mexico City cause in the top of the eighth inning with a 2-run single. For the game, the left fielder was 2-5 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Hoffman, "but we got it done."
Mexico City improves to 92-67 with the win. They lead their division by 11 games.
