Cheesesteaks Beat Crab Apple Cove, 2-1
|
Philadelphia pitcher Ron Collins had a large part in his team subduing the Crab Apple Cove Mashers, 2-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. John Hébert closed it out for Philadelphia, earning his 7th save. The first-place Cheesesteaks, at 98-62, lead the Frontier Northern by 13 games.
Had Dave McDonald not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, McDonald hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Cheesesteaks.
"Ron is a tough competitor," said Philadelphia manager Joey Santangelo.
