Falcons Need Extra Frames to Get Past Ravens
|
Richmond wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Curt Brown, falling to the Newark Falcons, 4-3. Brown threw 8.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. Newark pitcher Jim Reed got the win, upping his record to 5-4. Luis Galván got the loss. The Falcons sport a record of 56-104.
The outcome might have been different for Newark, had it not been for Juan Martínez, the 29-year old right fielder . Martínez stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put Newark up, 4-3. For the game, he was 4 for 5, including 2 doubles and 2 singles.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Martínez said.
