The San Jose Cuervo withstood a fine game by Iowa catcher Jon Ashe at Welsh Field, to upend the Crop Circles, 5-4. Ashe went 3-5 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The win was credited to Fernando Rodríguez in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Luis Santiago Jr. took the loss. Carlos Guzmán recorded his 5th save for San Jose.
Vicente Méndez, who is tied for 10th in the FR in triples with 1, helped out the San Jose cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a 2-run double. For the game, the first baseman went 1 for 4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI.
"I felt good up there," said Méndez. "I saw the ball well."
The win puts San Jose at 9-8.
