Though he had a stellar game, Phil O'Day could not prevent his team, the Reading Railbirds, from losing, 9-4, to the Crab Apple Cove Mashers. O'Day was 3 for 4 with a triple and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Kevin Underwood picked up the win, improving his season record to 5-2. He struck out 6 in 6.2 innings. Kerry Gross earned the save for Crab Apple Cove, his 1st.

The Railbirds had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Mashers going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the former first round draft pick Roy Ward came to the plate. Ward hit a 3-run home run on a full count changeup from Reading hurler Connor Kelloway. It was Ward's 3rd home run of the year.

"We didn't pitch good, and when you don't pitch good, you lose," said Reading manager Slam Dunks.

The Mashers, at 25-15, lead by one game in their division.
