Bearers Earn Clutch Win, 3-2
|
St. Paul and Mexico City played a hard-fought contest.
In a low-scoring contest between the St. Paul Bearers and the Mexico City Diablos, Darrell Holmes, who is tied for 5th in the FR with a 0.98 WHIP, proved to be the difference. The St. Paul right-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-2 Bearers win. The winning pitcher was Holmes, now 3-3. He tossed 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 8. Gonzalo Martínez, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 2nd save.
St. Paul needed the clutch hitting of Robbie Colón to seal the deal. The catcher swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Bearers on top, 3-1. For the game, Colón had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"It was a good effort all around," said Colón.
The losing streak for Mexico City has now reached 4 games.
