Death Valley Defeats Philadelphia, 2-1
|
The Death Valley Burn beat the Philadelphia Cheesesteaks, 2-1, at William Penn Park. Starting pitcher Roberto Nevárez was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. The winning pitcher was Nevárez, now 3-4. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 9. John Gates earned save number 8 this season.
Vincent Hill, the 16th overall pick in the 2062 draft, helped out the Death Valley cause in the top of the sixth inning with a 2-run home run. For the game, the left fielder went 1-3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"We were in it," said Philadelphia manager Joey Santangelo. "We just didn't score enough runs."
With the win, Death Valley upped its record to 21-18.
