Minneapolis Gets Riveting Walk-Off Win
|
The Newark Falcons got a sterling performance from pitcher Steve Gonzáles, but the Minneapolis Maulers still prevailed, 2-1. Gonzáles threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball. Minneapolis reliever Michael Erickson was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Byron Miller. The Maulers move to 22-27 with the win, while the Falcons drop to 24-23.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Minneapolis shortstop Raymond Weaver, facing Byron Miller, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Maulers the 2-1 win.
Afterward, Maulers manager Spoof Smith was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
