Philadelphia Dismisses San Jose, 6-5
|
The Philadelphia Cheesesteaks overcame a good performance by San Jose first baseman Marvin Andrés to knock off San Jose, 6-5, at Welsh Field. Andrés was 3-5 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Ralph McCormick was called on to finish, recording his 2nd save. The win makes Philadelphia 25-23.
Philadelphia needed the clutch hitting of Steve Baker to notch the win. The center fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Cheesesteaks on top, 5-3. For the game, Baker had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
In postgame comments to the Philadelphia News, Baker said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
