Skidding Border Jumpers Lose 10th Straight
The Laredo Border Jumpers got a superb performance from pitcher Gary Johnson, but the Havana Comrades still won the game, 5-3. Johnson came in in relief and pitched to 22 batters. Havana reliever Jim Garrett snagged the win, upping his record to 1-1. Manuel Domínguez shouldered the loss. Cliff Kelly notched his 11th save of the season.

Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Mario Sánchez? The 31-year old third baseman Sánchez stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put Havana up, 4-3. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.

"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Sánchez.

The Comrades improved their record to 28-23 by beating Laredo.
