Cuervo Topple Ice Pirates with Late Rally
The Cuervo grabbed a win, 8-4, at Liquor Luge, overcoming a fine effort from Glacier Bay pitcher Thomas Lewis. Lewis went 6.2 innings and allowed 1 run. San Jose reliever Walt Romero picked up the win to move to 1-1. Steve Kerracher suffered the loss. Richard Miller, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 11th save.

The outcome might have been different for San Jose, had it not been for Derrick Thomas, the two-time All-Star . Thomas stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put San Jose up, 5-4. For the game, he was 3 for 5, including 1 double and 2 singles.

"I like our mindset right now," said San Jose manager Brandon Kirk.

The second-place Cuervo have won 4 consecutive games.
