St. Paul Topples Alcatraz Island, 2-1

In a low-scoring game between St. Paul and Alcatraz Island, pitcher Darrell Holmes was excellent. The St. Paul right-hander helped his team knock off the Jail Break, 2-1. The win was credited to 38-year old right-handed pitcher John Gates in relief. His record improves to 4-1. Ricky Lee took the loss. St. Paul, at 30-27, holds down 4th place in the Frontier Northern.
The Bearers got a big at-bat from second baseman Rick Banks. For the game, Banks was 1 for 3 with a double. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 12th double of the season gave St. Paul a 2-1 lead.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said St. Paul manager .
