Monuments Sneak By Rum Runners, 3-2
|
The Orlando Rum Runners got a superb performance from pitcher Chris Clark, but the Washington Monuments still won the game, 3-2. Clark threw 6.1 innings of shutout ball. Riley Miller, the winner, improved to 4-4. He held the Rum Runners to 2 runs on 5 hits over 7.1 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 1. Brandon Holcomb recorded his 17th save for Washington.
Washington needed the clutch hitting of Rodrigo Carrillo to notch the win. The left fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Monuments on top, 3-2. For the game, Carrillo had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Carrillo said.
The win for the Monuments lifted their record to 40-19.
