Sugiyama 5-for-6 Against Sting

Seiryo Sugiyama was sizzling at the plate. In a game played at Pistols Ballpark, the Mojave left fielder blistered the Virginia Sting for 5 hits in 6 at-bats to pace his club to a good 11-1 victory.
"Sugiyama was too tough to get out," Sting skipper said in his postgame interview. "No matter what we threw him, he hit it. And he hit some good pitches, too."
Seiryo Sugiyama hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 4th, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and flied out in the 9th.
Sugiyama is hitting .382 this season with 4 home runs, 12 RBIs and 8 runs scored. He has 13 hits in 34 at-bats.

Campeche -Colo Springs Fight Results in Suspensions

After an intense confrontation, both the Pirates Don Baker and the Sky Sox Jim Unknown were handed their punishments today. The league commissioner's office issued suspensions for an on-the-field conflict that occurred at a recent Campeche -Colo Springs game. Don Baker will miss 6 games, while Jim Unknown was suspended for 4 games.
"Sometimes we go too far and have to pay the consequences," Don Baker commented later. "Hopefully cooler heads will prevail the next time we play."
This year, Baker has hit at a .189 pace and produced 2 RBIs, 1 home run and scored 5 runs.

Norfolk Loses González for Year

When Norfolk reliever Gerardo González was taken out of the game, the crowd at the Navigators-Explorers game went silent as they could tell that it was a serious injury. That was confirmed today by doctors when they revealed that González had sustained a torn ulnar collateral ligament and will be out for about 12 months.
