Payne Slams 3 Homers for Eagles Saturday, August 20th, 2061 Eric Payne went yard three times in a East St. Louis Eagles victory over the Summit County Soap Box Derby at Ballpark of Stockton today. "I was in a groove," he said. "Every pitch they tossed up there looked like a grapefruit." For the day, the East St. Louis third baseman went 3-for-5 against Summit County with 6 RBIs and 3 runs scored in a brilliant display of power hitting that led the Eagles to the 11-7 win. "I tell you what. I'm shocked because I didn't think that last ball had enough to get out," he told BNN reporters in the clubhouse following the game. "I thought it was just going to be a long out." Eric Payne flied out in the 1st, struck out in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off Pat Lévy in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Alan Taylor in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off Alan Taylor in the 8th. This season in 114 games, Payne has hit at a .258 clip with 112 hits, 9 home runs, 71 RBIs and 57 runs scored. |
