Velasco Blasts 3 into Bleachers Saturday, August 23rd, 2059 Woodmere Starfires first baseman Dave Velasco put on a dazzling display of power today at Ballpark of Woodmere against the Holliday Jackets. In the 22-1 Starfires victory Velasco penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts. "He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Holliday manager said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well." Along with his three home runs, the 20-year-old had 3 hits in 5 at-bats, 7 RBIs and 4 runs scored. "Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Velasco said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today." Dave Velasco struck out in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Júlio Figueroa in the 3rd, grounded out in the 4th, walked in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Toshikazu Sato in the 7th and hit a GRAND SLAM off Mal Ávila in the 7th. Thus far this year Velasco is batting .289 with 15 home runs, 47 RBIs and 38 runs scored. |
