Compton Nails 4 Homers Against Modesto
Friday, August 23rd , 2075
In what will surely go down as one of the greatest losing performances in league history, Ken Compton of the Bakersfield Firewalkers hit 4 home runs yet saw his club defeated by the Modesto Goshawks.
Compton ravaged Modesto pitching for a once-in-a-lifetime effort that somehow still wasn't enough to win the game. The Goshawks were victorious, 18-11.
"How do you get 4 home runs in one game and lose it?" he said after the game. "Honestly, I'm in a daze."
In the game, he went 4-for-5 with 4 runs scored and 8 RBIs.
"What he did was unbelievable," said Modesto manager . "My guys gave it their best, but he hit some fine pitches. He was like -- he was in an automatic home run mode today. He just had that great swing. It didn't matter what we threw him. It was gone."
Ken Compton hit a two-run home run off Felipe Vargas in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Felipe Vargas in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off Norberto Morales in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Joji Maeda in the 9th.
This season, Compton is swinging the bat at a .547 rate with 123 hits in 225 at-bats. To date he has hit 35 home runs, scored 113 runs and driven in 106.
