Monuments Roll Over Storm, 10-2
|
The Washington Monuments beat the West Island Storm by a score of 10-2. Washington center fielder Wally Williams deserved the lion's share of the credit. Williams was 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3 for the Monuments. Walter Hughes, the winning pitcher, is now 13-11. He went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits, while fanning 10 and walking 2. Washington has run its win streak to 4 straight.
With Washington leading 2-0 in the bottom of the second, Williams hit a sinker from Carlos Gallegos for a 2-run home run. It was his 18th home run of the season and put the Monuments ahead, 4-0.
"We can't expect to win," said West Island manager Matthew Tietz, "when we play like that."
