River Swimmers Pitching Ravaged by Evans
|
The East St. Louis Eagles stopped the Olympic River Swimmers by a score of 17-1 at Ballpark of Thornwood today, with the lion's share of the credit going to shortstop Jim Evans. The 22-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits.
"Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Evans said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard."
Evans did just that in his 6 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the River Swimmers.
"Not much that I can say," offered Olympic manager . "He just hammered the heck out of us."
Jim Evans hit a two-run home run off Jody Potter in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI double in the 9th.
Thus far this year Evans is hitting .393 with 3 home runs, 15 RBIs and 8 runs scored.
